Denise is Wet’suwet’en from her mothers side and Tsimshian & Gitxsan from her fathers side. A reformed shy girl who hated the sound of her own voice, Denise was raised in Terrace BC and grew up to be a voice actor and advocate.
After receiving a BC Aboriginal Business Award for Outstanding Business of the Year (1-2 person enterprise) in 2011 for her floral design business, that was just the beginning of her entrepreneurial spirit. Her many years in wedding design and planning gave her a number of tools that she uses in her ventures today: problem solving & the ability to pivot and understanding and navigating human relationships and time management to name a few.
Today, she uses those tools in the many jobs she does; as the manager of the Tears to Hope Society, a First Nations women led non profit that raises awareness and supports MMIWG families while working towards prevention; as the founder of Small Frog Records, an indie record label created to uplift and develop young Indigenous voices; as a voice actor, giving voice to e-learning projects, described video for film & television and audiobooks like Indigenomics: Taking a Seat at the Economic Table and The Rise of Indigenous Economic Power.
